I am an author who was conned by this company into publishing my book. They published two different editions of my book, one for sale here in North America, while the other was sold world wide through other publishing outlets. In the North American Edition they added during a uncalled for edit that I didn’t authorize mistakes so that it would sell well in the USA or North America for that matter. The version I did the final edit to was sold worldwide but I haven’t received my royalties for the sales done. Do not go with this group. They lie cheat and steal!

there’s always something with all publishing companies. so it don’t matter who you go with as long as they’re on the business and paying you your money. and read the contract. there’s nothing like working with a company who may not know what’s going on period.

Dear Rmlamatt,

No one can say with a 100% degree of certainly that Brent Sampson was the PODdy Mouth blog, but common sense can only lead one to that conclusion. That the blog was filled with outright lies about every other self-publishing company, except Outskirts Press is really all the proof that one would need. Couple that with emails from Outskirts Press to prospective authors where Outskirts blatantly lied about its competitiors (and that the authors were kind enough to forward to said publishers) — and one can reasonably only come to one conclusion.-

I am an author with outskirts press and this is very upsetting to say the least. Is this true that Brent Sampson has done this outlandish thing? I’m stunned if it is so.

I’m also curious about Brent Sampson’s background. There’s absolutely nothing about him on the net, while there’s plenty of information about the owners of other POD companies, particularly the mom-and-pops. He mentions having degrees in English and Film, but was he living off a trust fund before that…or using another name? Even the company website is shielded with a listing agent’s ID. Why?

I’ve been hearing rumors that Outskirts was behind a recent blog that posted a lot of misleading information about pretty much all the POD companies and in the final comparison, Outskirts came out on top. Anyone heard this? Is it true??

The blog was featured in Preditors and Editors.

You are so right!

I just checked out PoddyMouth’s blog – and found it fascinating that Outskirts Press wins all the supposed ‘contests’ outlined on the site, and his comparisons were ludicrous. He paired companies against each other and made totally incorrect and random judgements. I followed several of his comparisons back to the publishers site – and nothing on the blog was corroborated in any way OTHER than the facts about Outskirts Press. Funny how that works! Nice job -

I can corroborate this – I just posted a reply on another comment here. I got it direct from one of Brent Sampson’s folks. They thought it was hysterical. Don’t use Outskirts to publish anything – unless you like working with folks who spread lies and deceit.

Not only does Outskirts lie about its competitors, but the readers of this site should know that Brent Sampson – the owner of Outskirts Press – also runs a blog called “PoddyMouth” on WordPress. In the blog he makes outrageous lies about other self publishing companies – it’s amazing what he says (check it out). BUT – he’s too afraid to post under his own name. Don’t you hate it when bloggers can’t be brave enough to use their own names? I approached Outskirts about publishing a technical book – but I couldn’t stand the lies and getting a different answer each time I called. I swear I never got the same rep twice – most of them sounded like they were working from home. I’m looking at other options – probably going the Lulu.com route. So to all potential authors – Don’t Use Outskirts (unless you don’t mind working with liars).

OUTSKIRTS USES DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING
If you google “booklocker”, an ad pops up for Outskirts that says:

“Does Booklocker Compare? Compare the top 4 book publishers side by side, including royalties.”

However, when you click, Booklocker isn’t included anywhere in the charts or numbers. Why? Because Booklocker is less expensive and a better deal than Outskirts. The ad actually features Outskirts, AuthorHouse, iUniverse and Xlibris.

The ad is deceptive and illegal. Brent Sampson and Outskirts should be avoided at all costs.

OUTSKIRTS USING TRADEMARK OF ANOTHER COMPANY IN SEARCH ENGINE ADWORDS
Outskirts is using Booklocker.com’s trademarked name in their google adwords. When we told them to stop, they pretty much said too bad, everybody’s doing it. They’re still using our trademarked name in their google adwords today. AuthorHouse used to do this, too, but they immediately stopped when we notified them about it.

SPAMMERS
Finally, Outskirts Press has spammed WritersWeekly.com on more than one occasion.
